"Moving, deceptively complex"
  —Variety
"[Filmmkaer Filippo] Meneghetti and co-writer Malysone Bovorasmy have constructed a tight, briskly intelligent chamber drama, autumnal in setting and tone, and without a single superfluous scene, right through to its melancholy but gorgeous final sequence"
  —Hollywood Reporter
"Watching Two of Us in the midst of a global pandemic, where our free movement has been restricted, can't help but resonate in powerful ways"
  —The Film Stage
"Director Filippo Meneghetti's incredibly deft feature debut is cause for celebration... Beautifully crafted and perfectly cast"

Nina (the legendary Barbara Sukowa, Berlin Alexanderplatz, Lola), an Austrian emigrée to Paris, and her longtime girlfriend, Madeline (Martine Chevallier), are two retirees who live in what is legally Madeline's apartment, with Nina's flat just across the hall. They have been secretly in love for decades and to the outside world, they are the best of friends, and Nina is regarded as a permanent extension of Madeline's family. They come and go between their two apartments, sharing the tender delights of everyday life together.

Now, they are planning their final days in France, with an eye toward selling their homes and spending the rest of their days together on the beaches of Greece. However, Madeline is reluctant to tell her family about her plans to move, let alone come out to them. Nina, on the other hand, is fully convinced that, after years of living undercover, this is what they not only need but deserve. Then one day their relationship is turned upside down by an unexpected event leading Madeleine's daughter to slowly unveil the truth about them. In this new reality, their secret cannot remain hidden if they are to stay together, and their unconditional love is put to the test in this captivating story, which is also a moving tribute to love's ability to overcome all obstacles.

Directed by Filippo Meneghetti, France/Luxembourg/Belgium, 2019, 95 mins. In French with English subtitles.

Two of Us is France's entry for the 2021 Academy Awards in the international feature film category.

How long will my rental last?

This depends on the third-party site. On average you'll have 2–4 days after your purchase to watch the film. But to be safe, you should check the length for each rental you purchase through our Virtual Cinema.

What does it mean when I get redirected to another website?
